COMPANY: McNally Smith College of Music
CONTENT: Quarterly Faculty Advisor Training
POPULATION: All Department Heads and Faculty Advisors
NOTES: As Director of Academic Advising, one of my responsibilities was to capture and present updates to the Faculty Advisors of the college. This included programmatic, policy, and system changes. This information would be disseminated via College leadership (President, Dean, Department Heads), and I would lead Advisor Training sessions to ensure that all Faculty Advisors were up to date, and could provide accurate information to their advisees.
NOTES: Prior to my starting at the College, there was no single source of information for updates and changes. This meant Faculty Advisors felt unsure of programmatic and policy requirements, and as a result their Advisees had a harder time navigating their programs and course registration, which led to lower retention and graduation rates. After I started at the school, Faculty Advisors were regularly updated with the information necessary to guide their students well, resulting in greater retention, graduation rates, and a saving of money for the college due to programmatic or financial exceptions granted to students due to mis-advisement.
